French dancer and choreographer Guillaume Siard will hold a masterclass on choreographic construction and creation based on the “Preljocaj” dance technique in Iasi, Romania from December 6-11, 2022.

The opening will take place on December 6 at the “Benjamin Fondane” hall of the French Institute in Romania in Iasi, with screenings of videos containing demonstrations of the “Preljocaj” technique. The workshops will be held in the Conference Room of the Museum House.

The project, titled “Style, Method, Choreographic Composition – Angelin Preljocaj,” belongs to ICMA Institute for Multidisciplinary Research in Art at the National University of Arts “George Enescu” in Iasi and is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lorette Enache. The Doctoral School of Theatre Iasi, also part of the National University of Arts, is also involved in the organization of the event.

The Ballet Preljocaj company was founded in 1984 by Angelin Preljocaj (dancer, choreographer, and director) and became the National Center for Choreographic Art – Ballet Preljocaj in 1996, operating in Aix-en-Provence. Since 2006, the company has its own space. The building, which is named Pavillon Noir, is built of metal and glass, has four studios, a performance hall, and offers dancers the appropriate spaces and atmosphere for creation.

Choreographies created by Angelin Preljocaj have been taken over by major art institutions: La Scala in Milan, New York City Ballet, the State Opera in Berlin, or the National Opera in Paris.

Angelin Preljocaj is the creator of a ballet technique, which is taught in the school of the National Center for Choreographic Art. The director of this school is Guillaume Siard. After completing his studies at the Conservatory of Tours, Guillaume Siard attended the National School of Music and Dance in Lyon. He danced with several French companies and, in 2001, joined the National Center for Choreographic Art – Ballet Preljocaj. He holds workshops in contemporary dance, as well as yoga classes.

The workshops in Iasi are part of the mission undertaken by Guillaume Siard to promote the “Preljocaj” ballet technique among professional dancers and choreographers.
