Aesthetics of Weather with Mădălina Diaconu
The Institute for Multidisciplinary Research in Art (ICMA) at the George Enescu National University of Arts, Iași (UNAGE Iași), in collaboration with the Slow Sync PH Association, is pleased to announce a public discussion with Mădălina Diaconu, Professor of Aesthetics at the University of Vienna, devoted to the aesthetics of atmospheres and of weather, prompted by the publication of her new book on the subject (Bloomsbury, 2024).
Entitled Aesthetics of Weather, the discussion will bring together Raluca Oancea, Lecturer at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, and Elena Mateescu, Director of Romania’s National Meteorological Institute, and will be moderated by Professor Cristian Nae, Director of ICMA UNAGE Iași.
The event will take place on 9 January 2026, from 12.00 to 1.30 pm, online via Microsoft Teams.

On this occasion, together with the artists Raluca Paraschiv and Andrei Mateescu, we will consider the implications of eco-aesthetics for contemporary art, as well as the ways in which eco-art may intervene in current ecological, philosophical, and political debates.
Mădălina Diaconu, Docent at the Institute of Philosophy and Lecturer at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Vienna, holds PhDs in Philosophy from the University of Bucharest (1996) and the University of Vienna (1998), and completed her habilitation in Philosophy at the University of Vienna (2006). She is Vice-President of the Wiener Gesellschaft für interkulturelle Philosophie and serves on the editorial boards of polylog. Zeitschrift für Interkulturelles Philosophieren (Vienna) and Studia Phaenomenologica (Bucharest). She is the author of ten monographs, including Bukarest – Wien. Eine kulturhistorische Touristik an Europas Rändern (with L. M. Vosicky, 2007), Sinnesraum Stadt (2012), Phänomenologie der Sinne (Reclam, 2013), and De gustibus. Breviar de gastrosofie (joint ex aequo winner of the Specialist Book prize at the Romanian Publishing Industry Gala, 2014). She has edited seven collective volumes, including Constantin Noica, De dignitate Europae (2012), Geisteswissenschaften im Dialog. Deutsch-Rumänisch / Rumänisch-Deutsch (co-edited with A. Corbea-Hoisie, 2016), and Grenzen im Denken Europas. Mittel- und osteuropäische Ansichten (co-edited with B. Boteva-Richter, 2017).
