The Institute for Multidisciplinary Research in Art (ICMA) at the George Enescu National University of Arts, Iași (UNAGE Iași), organised, from 6 to 11 December 2022, in partnership with the French Institute in Romania at Iași, the House of Museums, and the Doctoral School of Theatre at UNAGE Iași, the choreographic masterclass Preljocaj: Style, Method, Choreographic Composition, led by the French dancer and choreographer Guillaume Siard.

The masterclass aimed to familiarise participants with the principles of the choreographic technique developed by Angelin Preljocaj, one of the most influential figures in contemporary European dance. Conceived as an intensive programme of artistic research and practice, it explored the relationship between bodily movement, choreographic composition, and the creative process, providing participating dancers and choreographers with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the pedagogical and repertory methods developed within Ballet Preljocaj – the National Choreographic Centre in Aix-en-Provence.

The workshops were led by Guillaume Siard, Pedagogical Director of the Ballet Preljocaj School and a close collaborator of Angelin Preljocaj, who has been actively involved in the company’s artistic and educational work for more than two decades. They began at the “Benjamin Fondane” Hall of the French Institute in Romania at Iași with the screening of video materials dedicated to the dance technique developed by Angelin Preljocaj, while the practical sessions took place in the Conference Hall of the House of Museums in Iași.
