Balkan Interferences in Contemporary Music and Art. Contextualizations and Multidisciplinary Approaches
The Institute for Multidisciplinary Research in Art (ICMA), within the “George Enescu” National University of Arts from Iași, announces the international conference Balkan Interferences in Contemporary Music and Art: Contextualizations and Multidisciplinary Approaches, which will take place on October 3, 2025, starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Symposion “George Pascu” Hall of the university’s Artes building.

The event will bring together Romanian and international artists and researchers interested in the phenomenon of Balkanism, who will analyze the impact of cultural, social, artistic, and historical influences on regional identity, and how these are reflected in contemporary society.
The aim of the conference is to contribute to a reconsideration of the stereotypes often associated with the Balkans – often perceived as a space of contradictions or the periphery of Europe – and to encourage a balanced perspective based on dialogue, research, and the exchange of ideas. Topics to be discussed include areas such as world music and folklore, film and theater, choreography, visual arts, and other related fields.
