Thursday, October 19, 2023, 12:00 p.m. – at the headquarters of the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design, building A, room A.0.11, 189 Sarariei str., as part of the ICMA UNAGE 2023 project – Theoretical research in contemporary design II, there will be a lecture by researcher Dr. Alexandra Chiriac with the title – Histories of Romanian interwar design: from the ‘cubist’ interior to the modern showcase.

Alexandra Chiriac is an art historian, being concerned with the histories of 20th century modernism, especially design and performance. During 2020-22 he was a researcher at the Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. She holds a PhD from the University of St Andrews and her research has been supported by numerous organisations, such as the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UK) and the Hedda Sterne Foundation (USA). Recent academic publications include the monograph Performing Modernism: A Jewish Avant-Garde in Bucharest (De Gruyter, 2022), available in open access, and the chapter ‘Berlin, Bauhaus, Bucharest: Re-Making Modernism in the Global Peripheries’ in the volume Historical Narratives of Global Modern Art (Routledge, 2023).
